September 20–27 is a big week at Bountiful Elementary. Between the PTA Family Magic Night Extravaganza, Parent-Teacher Conferences, the Scholastic Book Fair, and more, there will be plenty of reasons for families to come through our doors.
Our September theme, Effort Matters, feels especially fitting this week. Growth happens when students try, learn, adjust, and keep going—and conferences give families and teachers a chance to notice that progress together.
We spend plenty of time connecting through screens, emails, calendars, and newsletters. This week, we are looking forward to seeing you in person and strengthening our community at Bountiful Elementary.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences are September 23–25.
Sunday, September 20 is the final day to select your own conference appointment in myDSD. After September 20, remaining appointment times will be automatically assigned.

Conferences are a chance to look beyond one assignment or score and talk about the bigger picture:
What progress are we seeing?
Where is your student working hard?
Where might they need more support?
And what can school and home do together to help them take the next step?
School will dismiss at 1:30 p.m. on:
Wednesday, September 23
Thursday, September 24
Friday, September 25
Please plan ahead for transportation, childcare, and after-school arrangements.

Effort Matters: Growth Is the Goal
Where students are today is not where they have to stay. Learning takes practice. Mistakes give us information. Hard things sometimes require a different strategy, more support, or another attempt.
This week, try asking your student: What is something that feels easier now than it did at the beginning of the year?
Then follow up with: What helped you get better at it?
Those questions move the conversation from “Are you good at this?” toward “How are you growing?”—helping students recognize the connection between effort, support, and progress.
Modern Manners: Introduce Yourself & Know Your Contact Information
Knowing how to introduce yourself is a simple but important life skill.
Encourage your Bobcat to practice saying their first and last name, greeting someone appropriately, and introducing themselves to someone new.
Students should also know age-appropriate contact information, including a parent or guardian's full name and at least one trusted phone number. Older students should work toward knowing their home address.
Just as important: knowing personal information does not mean sharing it with everyone. Talk about when it is appropriate to give that information to a trusted adult—and when it should remain private.
Digital Citizenship: Your Digital Footprint Tells a Story
How we introduce ourselves matters online, too.
Photos, comments, usernames, posts, and other online activity contribute to a child's digital footprint and the identity others may see.
Before posting or sharing, families can practice asking:
Is this mine to share?
What information am I giving away?
What does this say about me or someone else?
Would I be comfortable with this being seen later?
Adults can model the same habits by talking with children before sharing their photos, reviewing privacy settings together, and discussing why personal information deserves protection.

Policy Highlight: Protecting Student Data
Students have a responsibility to think carefully about the information they share online. Schools have a responsibility to protect information, too.
Davis School District maintains policies and procedures designed to protect the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student data while allowing information to be used appropriately to support student learning.
Families can learn more about district safeguards, approved technology resources, and student data privacy information online.

Attendance Matters — Even During a Busy Week
Three early-dismissal days can change the week's routine, but every school day still matters.
Please continue making every effort to have students at school and ready to learn on time each morning.
Effort starts with showing up.
Now Hiring!
Davis School District's Transportation Department is actively hiring school bus drivers and assistants to help move 21,000+ students each day.
Interested individuals should call 801-402-7500 or apply directly at DSDJOBS.NET
