September’s Make It Matter focus is Effort Matters, and this week Bountiful Elementary is putting that effort into keeping our Bobcats safe, prepared, and connected.

It's Safety Week, with reminders for students and families about safe arrival and dismissal, building security, digital privacy, and shared spaces. We're also looking forward to Fall Picture Day, Parent-Teacher Conferences, the Scholastic Book Fair, and several other September events.

A little attention now can make the busy weeks ahead run smoothly for everyone involved.

Reminders


A few everyday routines make a big difference in keeping arrival, dismissal, and our building safe. These routines also help us know who is in the building and keep spaces secure once the regular school day ends.


Drop-Off & Pick-Up: Keep the Line Moving

Please slow down, stay alert, and follow the flow of traffic.

  • Aligned with the building = unloading/loading zone. If your vehicle is alongside the school, students should be getting in or out.

  • Waiting zone = wait. Please keep students in the vehicle until you have moved forward into the unloading/loading zone.

  • Once students are safely in or out, continue moving so the next vehicles can pull forward.

Keeping those two zones distinct helps traffic move more predictably and keeps students from navigating between waiting vehicles.

Visitors: Front Doors Only

All visitors should enter and exit through the main front doors and check in through the office. Please do not use side or rear doors as visitor entrances, even when they are open for student arrival, dismissal, or school activities.

Bring Photo ID

Photo identification is required when visiting the school. Please have ID with you whenever you come to the building.

After-School Bathrooms

School bathrooms are closed after dismissal unless specifically opened for a school-sponsored activity or event. Families utilizing the playground after school can access the bathrooms over at the city park.

Attendance Matters


Effort starts with being here.

Regular attendance and arriving on time and ready to learn give students the strongest opportunity to participate, connect, and keep up with classroom learning.

Every day—and every minute of instruction—matters.

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Schedule Now

Parent-Teacher Conferences are September 23–25, and families can select an appointment time through myDSD.

Please schedule by September 20. After September 20, remaining appointment times will be automatically assigned.

Conference week also includes three consecutive early-out days:

  • Wednesday, September 23 — 1:30 p.m.

  • Thursday, September 24 — 1:30 p.m.

  • Friday, September 25 — 1:30 p.m.

Families may want to make transportation, childcare, or after-school arrangements now.

Picture Day Is Thursday

Fall Picture Day is Thursday, September 17.

Bountiful Elementary partners with Bell Photographers for school and yearbook photos. Families may purchase photo packages, but a purchase is not required for students to be photographed.

PAWS in Action | Work & Play Safely

This week we’re recognizing Bobcats who help make school safer by:

  • Following adult directions

  • Moving safely through classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces

  • Using materials appropriately

  • Respecting personal space

  • Speaking up when something seems unsafe

  • Thinking before acting

Ask at home: What is something you do at school that helps keep other people safe?

Effort matters when students choose to do the right thing consistently—especially when they are looking out for each other.

Three Things We Are Working On

Modern Manners | Have Bathroom Manners

Bathrooms are shared spaces, and good manners help keep them clean, private, and available for everyone. Students are expected to:

  • Respect privacy and personal space

  • Use the bathroom, wash hands, and return to class

  • Flush and leave the space clean

  • Keep water in the sink

  • Avoid playing, gathering, or disrupting others

Taking care of a shared space may seem like a small thing, but hundreds of students use our bathrooms every day. A little effort from each person makes a big difference.

Digital Citizenship | Privacy & Safety

Online safety starts with knowing what information should stay private. This week, families can reinforce a few important habits:

  • Know the difference between personal and private information

  • Keep passwords private

  • Review privacy settings together

  • Be cautious with location sharing

  • Avoid quizzes, pop-ups, or offers asking for personal information

Policy Highlight | Bicycles, Scooters & Skateboards

Students may use parent-approved, non-motorized transportation to travel to and from school when they follow traffic laws and school expectations. Please remember:

  • Use recommended safety equipment

  • Walk bicycles, scooters, skateboards, and other wheels on school property, Inside the school fences, students should be walking their wheels.

  • Secure items at the designated racks

  • The school is not responsible for loss or damage

  • Motorized recreational devices are not used on campus

These expectations are especially important during busy arrival and dismissal times when pedestrians, vehicles, and wheels are all sharing the same space.
