Before the auditions, costumes and curtain call, there is a lot to learn about what happens on a musical theater stage.
This fall, the Bountiful Elementary PTA is offering a new six-week Musical Theater Workshop for students in grades 3–6. The workshop is designed to help students build foundational performance skills and begin preparing for Bountiful Elementary's spring musical.
Over the course of six weeks, students will get an introduction to several different parts of musical theater—from learning how to move and communicate onstage to developing their voices, characters and audition skills.
Six Weeks of Musical Theater
Each week will focus on a different part of the performance experience:
Week 1: Sept. 1 & 3 — Workshop Overview: What is Musical Theater?
Week 2: Sept. 8 & 10 — Acting: Stage Directions and Presence
Week 3: Sept. 15 & 17 — Singing: Projection and Expression
Week 4: Sept. 22 & 24 — Dancing: Movement and Character
Week 5: Sept. 29 & Oct. 1 — Costumes and Makeup
Week 6: Oct. 6 & 8 — Auditioning Skills
It is a chance for students to see that a musical is about much more than simply learning lines. Performing asks students to listen, collaborate, communicate, take creative risks and learn how many different pieces come together to tell a story.
For students who may be interested in participating in the spring musical, the workshop also provides an opportunity to become familiar with some of the skills they may eventually use during auditions and rehearsals.
Workshop Details
Who: Bountiful Elementary students in grades 3–6
Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 1–Oct. 8, 2026
Doors Open: 7:30 a.m.
Class: 7:40–8:30 a.m.
Cost: $40 per student
Registration Deadline: Friday, Aug. 28
Students may enter the school beginning at 7:30 a.m., and class will begin promptly at 7:40 a.m.
Completed registration forms should be returned to the Bountiful Elementary front office by Friday, Aug. 28. The $40 class fee is due on or before Sept. 1 and may be paid by check to the Bountiful Elementary PTA or through the PTA's online payment system.
If the class fee creates a financial hardship for your family, please contact the principal for assistance. No student will be excluded because of an inability to pay.
Ready to Learn, Ready to Participate
Because the workshop covers a lot of material in just six weeks, regular attendance and arriving on time will be important.
Students participating in the workshop are expected to come ready to work with a positive attitude and energy, listen and follow directions, stay focused during class, and show respect for their instructor and fellow students.
Parents should excuse any absence, and continued tardiness or absences may result in a student being dismissed from the workshop.

Make It Matter: Try the Stage
One of the best parts of elementary school is having the opportunity to discover something you didn't already know you enjoyed.
For some students, that happens with a paintbrush. For others, it might be a robot, a soccer ball, a book—or a stage.
The new Musical Theater Workshop gives Bountiful Bobcats another opportunity to Make It Matter by learning something new, practicing a skill and building the confidence to try.
And sometimes, before you know whether the stage is your place, you simply have to step onto it.
