Photo collage of present and future 6th grade teachers at Bountiful Elementary

At Bountiful Elementary, our teachers bring more than lesson plans, classroom routines, and subject knowledge to school each day. They also bring values, experiences, and beliefs that shape the way they support students.

As part of a new feature highlighting groups of people across our school, we asked members of our 6th grade team to share a favorite quote and explain why it matters to them. Their answers offer a meaningful glimpse into the heart of their work with students.

Jeni Hall

“For success, attitude is as important as ability!”

Mrs. Hall shared that this quote stands out because success is not only about being smart or talented. It also takes effort, perseverance, and a willingness to work hard.

“It really doesn’t matter how smart or talented you are if you aren’t willing to work hard,” she said. “Attitude makes all the difference in being successful.”

Her quote reflects a message many students hear throughout the year: growth comes from showing up, trying again, and choosing a positive mindset even when something is difficult.

Chandler Allen

“You don’t have to be kind to be a teacher, but you do have to be kind to be a good one.”

Mr. Allen, who will be moving from 4th grade to 6th grade, chose a quote centered on kindness and connection.

For him, kindness is an essential part of good teaching because it helps students feel seen, supported, and cared for.

“Kindness shows that you care,” he explained. “Like the other saying goes, ‘People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.’”

His answer highlights the importance of relationships in the classroom and the role care plays in helping students learn.

Matthew Nelson

“Fairness does not mean everyone gets the same. Fairness means everyone gets what they need.” — Rick Riordan

Mr. Nelson, who will be leaving Bountiful Elementary at the end of this school year, selected a quote that connects directly to the heart of teaching.

He shared that the quote captures what it means to support students as individuals.

“This quote by Rick Riordan captures the essence of teaching—supporting every student according to their individual needs, no matter the challenges or advantages they may face,” he said.

His reflection reminds us that fairness in education is not about treating every student exactly the same. It is about understanding what each student needs in order to grow.

More Than a Quote

Together, these quotes show a shared commitment to hard work, kindness, and meeting students where they are. They also reflect the care and thought our 6th grade teachers bring to their classrooms each day.

We are grateful for the people who make Bountiful Elementary such a meaningful place to learn, grow, and belong.
