As we move into the final stretch of the school year, Bountiful Elementary students will begin end-of-year RISE and Acadience testing. These assessments are part of the required testing schedule for Davis School District and the State of Utah and help measure student progress in key academic areas.

For students, testing is a chance to show what they have learned and how much they have grown this year. For schools and families, the results provide important information about student learning, academic progress, and next steps in instruction.

We appreciate families helping students come to school each day on time, well rested, and ready to do their best. Consistent attendance during testing helps students complete assessments with their class, in their regular learning environment, and with the support of familiar routines.

The following is the general testing schedule for Bountiful Elementary. Your student’s teacher will communicate exact testing dates & times for your student. Please note: times may be adjusted as needed.

What are RISE and Acadience?

The RISE (Readiness Improvement Success Empowerment) Assessment in Utah is a state-mandated standardized test administered to students in grades 3-8. It measures student achievement in the following subjects:

  • English Language Arts (ELA)

  • Mathematics

  • Science

Acadience Math is a state-mandated assessment designed for students in grades kindergarten through third. Administered at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year, this assessment serves as both a universal screening tool and a progress monitoring measure. Its primary purpose is to evaluate students’ acquisition of math skills from kindergarten through third grade.

Early Numeracy: Acadience Math assesses early numeracy skills, ensuring that students have a solid foundation in fundamental mathematical concepts.

Computation: The assessment evaluates students’ computational abilities, including basic arithmetic operations.

Problem-Solving: Acadience Math also measures problem-solving skills, which are essential for mathematical proficiency.

Acadience Reading is a state-mandated assessment administered to students in grades K-6. As per Board Rule R277-406, it occurs at the school year's beginning, middle, and end. This comprehensive assessment comprises seven one-minute measures, which serve as indicators of various early literacy and reading skills:

Phonemic Awareness: Assessing students’ ability to recognize and manipulate individual sounds in words.

Alphabetic Principle: Evaluating their understanding of letter-sound relationships.

Phonics: Measuring their grasp of decoding skills.

Accuracy and Fluency with Connected Text: Gauging how well they read text fluently and accurately.

Reading Comprehension: Determining their understanding of what they read.

How Families Can Help

Testing days do not need to feel stressful, but a few simple things can make a big difference. Families can support students by helping them:

  • get a good night’s sleep

  • eat breakfast

  • arrive at school on time

  • attend consistently during their testing window

  • begin the day with a calm, positive mindset

When possible, please avoid scheduling appointments during your child’s testing block so students can test with their class and avoid needing make-up sessions.

Thank you for partnering with us as we support students through end-of-year testing. We are proud of the hard work our Bobcats have put in all year and look forward to seeing them show what they know.
